UN Climate Change Conference (COP)
CSPPS engages with the annual UN Climate Change Conference (COP) to advocate for stronger recognition of the links between climate change, conflict, fragility and peacebuilding. Through its position papers in collaboration with Cordaid, CSPPS brings civil society perspectives from fragile and conflict-affected settings into global climate discussions and puts forward recommendations for more conflict-sensitive, inclusive and peace-responsive climate action.
COP30 (2025)
In 2025 for COP30, CSPPS and Cordaid highlighted the disproportionate impact of climate change on people living in fragile and conflict-affected settings, who face the combined pressures of climate vulnerability, fragility and violent conflict while receiving insufficient climate finance. The paper calls for urgent, adequately financed and integrated climate action that strengthens resilience, supports conflict prevention and contributes to sustainable peace.
COP29 (2024)
For COP29, Cordaid and CSPPS call for increased and more accessible climate finance for fragile and conflict-affected settings. The positioning advocates for funding to be channelled through civil society actors, particularly at the local level, and for climate finance mechanisms to support inclusive and integrated approaches that respond to the realities of communities affected by both climate change and conflict.
